How to Play

Play 9 x 9 Rotate and Flip online for free. 9x9 Rotate and Flip is a spatial puzzle game loosely inspired by Tetris and similar line-clearing games. Place the pieces on the field to form full rows of blocks. Flip, rotate, and drop the blocks to fit pieces in better and create more rows. This game has a basic free play mode along with modes with a level timer & bombs that must be cleared from the playing field. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

To load the welcome screen, left click or tap anywhere.
If you’re playing the game for the first time, the game will show the interactive tutorial. Follow along to learn the game’s basic controls.
On the welcome screen, select a game mode to begin.
Your web browser automatically saves your high score. The individual high scores are displayed below the icon for each game mode.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - With your mouse:
    - Left click, drag, and drop the blocks onto the field.
    - Left click on the rotate button on the block slots to change the orientation of the blocks.
    - Touchscreen devices
      - Tap on the screen with your fingers and use them as a mouse.
      - Controls and indicators
        The pause button can be found on the top left corner.
        The top right corner has the following buttons:
        Music button: Turn the game’s audio on and off
        Enlarge button: Lets you switch between windowed and full-screen modes
        The bottom center has the following controls, from left to right:
        Drop button
        Rotate counterclockwise
        Rotate clockwise
        Flip horizontally
        Flip vertically
        In By Time and Bombs modes, your score appears on the left side of the screen.
        The timer appears in the center left of the screen in By Time mode.
        The right side of the screen contains 3 block slots.
        On the bottom right corner of each box slot is a rotate button to rotate each piece before playing it.
        Game Play
        Basic rules
        Form lines by placing pieces on the field. Completing a full line blocks using the pieces to clear them from the field.
        Rotate the pieces before you place them.
        As you place pieces on the field, you receive new pieces.
        Keep playing until you run out of space for blocks.
        Use the controls at the bottom row to change the orientation of the blocks on the field.
        These will help you remove spaces and accommodate more awkward pieces.
        Of these, the drop button is the most useful as it lets you bring down all the blocks and clear out holes.
        The game over screen appears at the end of the versions of the game with a score.
        Select the home button on the center left to return to the welcome screen.
        Select the reset button to start a new game.
        Select Clear High Score to remove your previous record.
        Game modes
        Time Mode
        Take out as many lines as you can before the timer runs out.
        The level timer starts at 3 minutes.
        Make your moves quickly to make the most of a limited play time.
        Play until the timer runs out.
        Collect watch power ups to earn more time/to pick up watch power ups, form and clear a complete line of blocks around them.
        Each clock adds 5 seconds to your play time.
        Completing lines
        Each line is worth 10 points.
        As much as possible try to complete lines which have timers in them until you get down toward the end of the game & then play for speed to make as many lines as you can.
        Bombs Mode
        Bombs appear randomly around the level over time.
        They will explode after 10 moves.
        If any of them explode, it’s game over.
        Form full rows or columns of blocks around bombs before they explode to remove them from the field.
        Your row or column must be complete & must include one of your pieces in the cell containing a bomb.
        You can explode multiple bombs at the same time if a completed row or column runs through them.
        Your moves should typically be dedicated to taking out the bombs with the fewest ticks left so you keep extending your play.
        Moves & piece strategy
        Rotating pieces does not count as a move, but each piece you lay to the board or when you drop all pieces downward on the board it counts as a move.
        Play your largest pieces first if they fit and help you make a row or column.
        Try to reserve some of your smaller pieces to lay in hard to reach areas.
        Don’t forget to use the board mirror or rotation features.
        Keep playing for as long as you can.
        Free Mode
        Free mode is a bare bones version of the game.
        There is no timer or bombs here. Play without any pressure.
        There are no points in this mode.
        The pieces you receive in this mode are less complex than those of the other two game modes.
        Scoring
        Scoring is only available in the By Time and Bombs modes.
        Each row or column of blocks you clear is worth 10 points.
        The game will show you your final score on the win screen.
        Tips
        We recommend playing Free Mode first to get a hang of the game’s controls and options.
        Think outside the box.
        Use the rotation, flip, and drop tools to change where your lines will form.
        Piece usage
        As you play throughout the game the shapes of pieces you get includes more larger pieces which are harder to fit into the puzzle.
        Try to play large pieces as soon as you can in order to hopefully get a better piece.
        Save your smallest pieces for last to help you get out of jams.
        If you can not lay larger pieces consider using a smaller one to open up a line and create more space.
        Target Audience
        The game is suited for players who like spatial logic puzzle games like Tetris.
        The game has no adult themed content.
